Boy, 10, fights off kidnapper
POLICE are warning of a prowler who tried to kidnap a 10-year-old boy in Salford.
The young victim bravely managed to fight off the man, who grabbed him from behind and forced him down an alley.
The boy was walking along Castleway, in the Clifton area, when he was approached and attacked by the man described as being 6ft 4in.
He was forced into an alley and onto nearby wasteland. The young boy fought back and managed to escape and returned to his home.
Police were called to the scene at 3.45pm on Wednesday.
They have launched an investigation and are treating the incident as an attempted abduction. Extra officers were put on patrol in the Clifton area on Wednesday and GMP are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
The man who grabbed the boy is described as black and in his late twenties.
Det Insp Joe Clarke, of Greater Manchester Police’s Salford borough, said: “People in the area will understandably be concerned that this has happened to a young boy. We have a team of officers carrying out a number of enquiries and have increased patrols in the area – please talk to them if you have any concerns.
“It was a busy time of day, so I’m really appealing for anyone who heard a disturbance at this time, or saw something that stood out from the norm, to get in touch and help our investigation.”
A GMP spokesman confirmed: At around 3.45pm on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, police were called to reports of an attempted abduction on Castleway in Clifton.
“Officers attended and found that a 10 year-old boy had been walking on the road when he was grabbed by a man from behind who forced him down an alley and onto nearby wasteland. Thankfully the boy managed to escape and returned to his home.”
