Airport is hit by global IT problem

-

MANCHESTER was one of the airports affected by a global airline computer crash yesterday morning.

Passengers at airports around the world reported delays checking-in for flights after being told the systems used by several airlines were down.

Bosses at Manchester have now confirmed some of their operators were affected by the computer ‘technical problems’.

However, they said it affected just a couple of airlines, Thomas Cook and Cathay Pacific.

They added local systems were only down for a short period of time, around 15 minutes, and that a small number of passengers were affected with most ‘barely noticing any issues.’

A spokesman, said: “A third party IT system, used by a number of our airlines, experienced some technical problems. The problem was fixed and there was no impact on operations at the airport.”

London Gatwick along with airports in Australia, Paris, Washington, Singapore, South Korea and South Africa are among others affected.

Travellers said they were unable to check-in for their flights with a number of airlines including British Airways, Air France, Qantas and Lufthansa.

Some said they had been waiting to check-in for nearly two hours without any luck.

Gatwick said they were also back up and running after the ‘momentary outage’ at around 11am.
