Pedestrian, 40, fighting for life after being hit by a car

A MAN is fighting for life in hospital after a collision with a car in Wigan town centre.

The 40-year-old pedestrian suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a blue Peugeot 206 on New Market Street just before 9.30am on Thursday.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police said.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigat­ion.

Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dash-cam footage, to get in touch.

Pc Phil Shaw of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit said: “We are doing all we can to support the man’s family at this difficult time. Our investigat­ion to establish the circumstan­ces surroundin­g this incident is ongoing and I would ask for anybody with informatio­n to contact the Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit.

“This happened at a busy time, so if you witnessed the collision or have any CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist our investigat­ion then please get in touch.”
