Skip truck is ploughed into front of shop

- By SAM YARWOOD

POLICE are hunting a gang of wouldbe robbers after they ploughed a skip truck into a shop.

These dramatic images show the level of destruction caused by the thieves after they targeted the McColl’s store on Oldham Road, Failsworth, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The entire shop front has been wiped out, with debris scattered across the pavement, and the ATM in pieces.

A group of men were seen fleeing the scene in a second vehicle. GMP are investigating the incident as an attempted robbery.

They said: “At 1.40am police were called to reports of a skip truck hitting a supermarket on Oldham Road in Failsworth.

“When officers attended, the truck had been left and it is believed a number of men made off in a different, unknown vehicle towards Oldham and the motorway. “Officers are treating it as an attempted robbery and are appealing for information.”

A McColl’s spokesperson told the M.E.N. that ‘extensive’ damage had been caused to the shop and was unable to say when the store would be reopened.

They apologised for any inconvenience, adding: “We’ll be working hard to repair the damages and re-open our store as quickly as possible.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting incident number 152 of 9 October 2017 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
