Nev: United must regain league crown

UNITED must put a swift end to their Premier League title barren spell and stop the drought becoming an albatross around their necks again.

Phil Neville believes Reds boss Jose Mourinho must put the league crown on top of the priority list.

United went 26 years from the 60s to 1993 without being England’s top dogs.

But after 13 titles in 20 years under Sir Alex Ferguson the Reds have not got near lifting the prized trophy again since the Scot finally stepped down in 2013.

Neville won the league six times during his time at Old Trafford and says that Mourinho now has to deliver it again. “For Manchester United, the Premier League at this moment is bigger than winning the Champions League,” said Neville.

“Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired it has become a noose around the club’s neck, they can’t win the Premier League without him and it’s another year gone.

“When I obviously broke into the team it was 26 years (since they won the league) and they don’t want it to keep building and building and have that gap.

“I think for Jose the start of the building block was the trophies (the EFL Cup and the Europa League) last year, but the actual foundation is the Premier League.

“United, I think, will want to win the Premier League more than the Champions League.”
