A MUM lost more than HALF her body weight so she could keep up with her young son.

Two years ago 46-year-old Mandy Fraser from Oldham weighed 28-anda-half stone and was suffering from health problems, all made worse by her weight.

She decided to lose weight after having her third son Dwight in 2011 and realising her excess weight was making her too tired to play with him.

Mandy, from Moorside, dropped 17 stone in just two years to give her son the childhood he deserved.

She said: “I’ve got a 27-year-old and a 24-year-old and I was always big, but I had another child so I lost weight to be able to do things with him.

“As you get older you get tired, and I couldn’t do anything with him, and you just think enough is enough. I was always tired so I didn’t feel like I was giving him the childhood he deserved.”

After reaching a size 32 Mandy decided to take the plunge and joined Weight Watchers. Now she goes to the gym five times a week for at least an hour and has shrunk to a size 10-12.

Mandy added: “I’ve never been a chocolate person. I’m mainly into savoury things like sausage rolls and crisps. With Weight Watchers, you know when you’ve had your points so you control your portions so you can eat more.”

Mandy also has sessions with her personal trainer, Danny Davis, twice a week at the Elite Fitness gym in Shaw.

She said: “I’m quite shy and I didn’t want to go to the gym and be the fattest person there. I only joined this April after losing a bit of weight and I got a personal trainer and we did sessions in a private studio.”

Now that she’s reached her goal weight, Mandy says she’s able to spend more time playing with her six-year-old son and is far more active than before.

Mandy added: “We do a lot more things together now. We have a lot more energy and a lot more fun. When we went out previously I’d be worried about getting out the car. I was quite nervous about my weight and my husband is quite fit so it was just me that was overweight.”

Even her GP is happy with the changes she’s made, now believing that Mandy is at the ideal weight for her height and age.
