A YOB with a Samurai sword jumped on a takeaway counter and hurled racist abuse at the owner while waving the weapon around.

Mohsi Afad Nanna, 39, jumped back when the masked man pointed the blade directly at him and hit the counter with the sword as his colleague rushed away to call police.

Mohsi was working at the Bombay Blaze curry house, in Atherton, near Wigan, on Sunday night when the man came in shouting racist abuse. Recalling the horrific event, Mohsi, who is originally from Bangladesh but lives in Bolton, said: “He told me to **** off back to my country.

“He called me a ******* Muslim. He jumped on to my counter and shouted insults.

“He targeted my ordering machine. He didn’t steal money. He pointed the sword at me and I stepped back.

“My colleague called the police. He went away. I’m really upset. I feel low. We are doing very good work around here.

“I’m really surprised it happened. Sometimes people are racist to me on the streets but it is really bad when they do it in my own shop with a weapon. It’s not good, it shouldn’t be like this. This is a multicultural country. Everybody should get on with their business.

“In the area I work, I have a lot of English people coming in to the takeaway. They are usually very friendly. But this was bad.”

The incident, at the takeaway on Market Street in the town centre, happened at about 9.45pm on Sunday.

The man was described as wearing a mask, a bomber jacket and black clothing.

A GMP spokeswoman confirmed they were treating the incident as a hate crime and said: “We were called at just before 9pm to Market Street in Atherton to reports that a man carrying a sword had attended a takeaway and made racially abusive threats towards staff.”

No one has been arrested and officers are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who has more information to contact them on 101.
