Bury fight back to claim victory

- FOOTBALL By SHELDAN KEAY @MENSports

BURY came from behind to pick up an impressive 3-1 win against Bradford City at the JD Stadium.

The Shakers went 1-0 down after just nine minutes when Charlie Wyke grabbed the opener, but a Chris Maguire penalty along with a strike from Jermaine Beckford moments later made it 2-1 to Bury at the break.

Jay O’Shea then wrapped up the points late on when he scored a third, with Lee Clark’s side moving up to 19th place in the League One table after the win.

ROCHDALE had to settle for a point after a 2-2 draw at Fleetwood Town.

The hosts led at half-time thanks to a goal from former Dale player Ashley Eastham, but Keith Hill’s men turned things around after the interval when Bradden Inman and Ian Henderson made it 2-1.

Fleetwood were then reduced to 10 men just after the hour mark as Wes Burns was sent off, but Dale couldn’t hold on despite having the extra man advantage, with Devante Cole equalising on 83 minutes.

Dale are fifth from bottom after the draw, with only goal difference separating them from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, OLDHAM will appoint a new manager next week, the club have confirmed.

After seeing off Blackburn 1-0 thanks to a stylish, hard-working performance capped by a strike from “magic” man Queensy Menig, it is hard to imagine now that man won’t be Richie Wellens.

The interim boss is a recordbreaker, having made history by becoming the first Latics manager ever to win his first four matches in charge.

On-loan Nantes man Menig then made the difference, finishing off a neat counter-attack by converting from Eoin Doyle’s defence-splitting pass.

“I’m pleased for Queensy as he has got a bit of magic in him and he has come on and scored the winner,” said Wellens.

“He has ability and when you play him on the left he can come back on his right foot. That’s what he did and it was a great finish.”

WIGAN ATHLETIC moved to the top of the League One table after a comfortable 3-0 home win over Southend United.

Goals from Michael Jacobs, Nick Powell and Ivan Toney earned Wigan all three points at the DW Stadium.

In the Championship, BOLTON WANDERERS finally won their first league game of the season after a 2-1 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
