Vinny lends helping hand to pensioner in home fall

A POLICE officer teamed up with a kind-hearted stranger to help rescue an elderly man in distress.

The pensioner had fallen over in his home in Heywood, and was struggling to get back on his feet, so called GMP for assistance.

Pc Jeffery was sent to his aid, but needed an extra pair of hands to help her lift the man back up.

She went outside and stopped a young man, known as Vinny, who was passing but, who jumped at the chance to assist.

Together they lifted the elderly gentleman back into his chair, before an ambulance came to check him over.

GMP Heywood posted a thank you to Vinny on Facebook.

It read: “Big thanks to Vinny who helped Pc Jeffery earlier in Heywood to get an elderly gentleman back onto his chair after a fall.

“The gentleman rang the police to ask for help after a minor tumble saying he was struggling to get back to his feet.

“Pc Jeffery attended but needed an extra pair of hands to assist the gentleman without causing him any discomfort so she stopped a young lad called Vinny who was passing by and asked if he would mind helping her.

“Vinny immediatel­y responded with ‘yes of course, no problem at all!’ and he helped the officer lift the gentleman back onto his chair so that he was much more comfortabl­e whilst she waited for an ambulance to give him the once over.
