Four Lions sign on to stay with Swinton

-

SWINTON have begun shaping their squad next season, announcing that four key players will be staying with the Lions.

Andy Thornley impressed in the early stages of last season before suffering a serious knee injury, but expects to be fit to return in the new year.

“Andy is our club captain and he brings consistent positive values both on and off the field,” said Swinton boss Stuart Littler.

Matt Sarsfield is another player who was unable to contribute over the year because of an unfortunate injury - his knee issue picked up in only the second fixture of the league campaign - and Littler is looking forward to having him available.

“It will be like having a brand new signing,” he explained. “I am looking forward to working with Matt and getting the best out of him. There’s no doubt he’ll improve our team.”

Ex-Wigan Warrior Rhodri Lloyd will also be with the Lions again next season after he’s competed for his country Wales in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

Centre Chris Hankinson completes the quartet confirmed to be part of the Lions squad next season and Littler expects to bring the best out of the former Leigh Centurions player.

He said: “He has the ability to become one of the best centres in the division. Chris has already shown that he has what it takes to compete in the Championship and as a former centre myself, I now want to help Chris develop his game.”
