Four arrested after axe attack horror

FOUR men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an axe attack which left the victim with a ‘life-changing’ hand injury.

Officers were first called to Church Road, Newbold, Rochdale, at about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

An air ambulance was seen landing on a nearby green.

The man was then taken to hospital where he remained for treatment.

A police cordon was put in place between Milnrow Road and St John’s Drive and remained for several hours.

Police have said four men – aged 53, 27, 25 and 23 – were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in custody for questionin­g.

Det Insp Adrian Gallagher, of GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “This was a brutal attack on a man in broad daylight which has left him with a life-changing injury. We have carried out significan­t enquiries since the incident took place and we have now arrested four men on suspicion of attempted murder.

“They are currently being questioned by detectives.

“I would continue to ask that anybody with informatio­n which they think could assist us contact the police immediatel­y.”
