Young trio boost Centurions’ ranks

- RUGBY LEAGUE By TOM BRAMWELL

LEIGH are continuing preparations for life in the Kingstone Press Championship with the addition of three young players - all with Super League experience.

Jack Owens will link up once more with Centurions’ head of rugby Keiron Cunningham at Leigh Sports Village. The Widnes academy product joined St Helens ahead of the 2016 season, but completed the second half of the season on loan at Sheffield Eagles.

“He is an adaptable and quality back who has a burning desire to achieve many more things in his career,” said Leigh coach Neil Jukes. “While Jack has played well in many positions for his respective clubs, he is coming here to stake his claim for his own spot. His stats at such a young age speak for themselves and to score the tries he has and kick the goals is no fluke.”

Owens’ arrival has been swiftly followed by the capture of two promising young forwards in Nick Gregson and Jack Blagbrough.

Gregson scored twice in 16 matches for Wigan Warriors and also enjoyed a loan spell with Swinton Lions.

“His skill set is outstanding and I firmly believe with the support and opportunity he will be given, in addition with the work ethic installed, he will play a significant role in assisting us to achieve our goals in 2018,” said Jukes.

Blagbrough made his Super League debut for Huddersfield in 2013 and has had spells at Sheffield, York and Oldham before spending 2017 in Australia with the Mackay Cutters.
