Silva’s warning to Blues fans

-

BERNARDO Silva has warned City fans that the fun and goals cannot last.

The Portugal international took part in a 3-0 win against Burnley which came close to equalling Everton’s record, from 1894, of netting 33 goals in the first nine games of a league season.

And with the Blues racking up a club joint record of 11 straight wins, and another of 22 games unbeaten – equalling their efforts in 1936-37 and 1946-47 – it has been sunshine all the way. But after Burnley proved dogged opponents and stifled a little of the magical football the support has enjoyed this season, Bernardo said it won’t always be like this.

“You cannot always win 7-0 or 7-2, or 6-1 or 5-0,” he said. “Some games are more complicated than others, and the most important thing is to win the three points and then keep winning, winning, winning.

“When you get used to winning, everything is much easier – the atmosphere, everything, goes better and that’s what we are trying to do.”

City’s win, combined with United’s shock defeat at Huddersfield means that the Blues have moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table. But Bernardo played down the significance of the two results, which mean City are now the only unbeaten team in the league.

“It’s only the beginning, but it’s always good when your opponents don’t win,” he said. “We have to stay focussed on our games, but it’s a good day for us.”
