POLICE are trying to find a moped rider who disappeared after being forced off the road, beaten up and driven away in a silver 4x4.

Stephen Haworth, 29, was riding the bike in Bury when he was hit by a black Ford Escort.

Four men got out of the car and assaulted him.

Passers-by called an ambulance but Stephen left the scene in a silver 4x4 before police and paramedics arrived.

It happened around 12.20pm on Wednesday, October 18. Police have now issued an appeal for information as Stephen has not been seen for six days.

His moped was struck at the junction of Walnut Avenue and Alder Avenue, in Fairfield, close to where the M66 motorway cuts through the town.

Stephen’s family and the police are becoming increasingly concerned about him. He is white, with short blond, receding hair. When he was last seen he was wearing a black biker jacket, a grey woolly bobble hat with black stripes on it, black trousers and black trainers. Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Cadden of GMP’s Bury Borough said: “We don’t know where Stephen went after being assaulted, but we are extremely concerned about him as he hasn’t been seen Bury police since. We are appealing to anyone who knows where Stephen is, to contact police as a matter of urgency.”

A GMP spokeswoman said at this stage there was no evidence that Stephen had been kidnapped.

Anyone who sees Stephen, or knows where he is, should contact police on 101 quoting reference MP/17/0110749, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
