Sarah’s Potty for Halloween
TEEN GIVES HOME HORROR MAKEOVER FOR CHARITY
THIS Halloween there’s one house in Stockport that will be tricky to miss.
Each year for the past five years 18-year-old Sarah Barron has spent weeks decorating her house on Meadway in Bramhall to raise cash for charity – and this year she has gone bigger than ever.
With the help of her dad Dave she has decked out their home with a hair-raising Harry Potter theme, complete with bloodcurdling bats, deadly dementors, mystical magic wands, and a flying car driven by a spooky skeleton.
For the past couple of years Sarah has been raising money for Macmillan Cancer Care, and this year the cause is even closer to her heart as her mum Catherine was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of last year.
Dave said: “She works so hard on it – she has made all the exhibits herself, she even made the car that we are going to put on the roof. It is her main focus every year; she doesn’t throw herself into anything like she does this.
“It is even more poignant this year as we lost my dad to cancer a couple of years ago, and my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She has had chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and her most recent tests came back negative which is really good news.
“The house is pretty well known in the area now. There is a school just around the corner, and the parents all say their children make them take the long way round so they can pass by the house. We started in September.”
Sarah decided on a Harry Potter theme after putting a message on Facebook asking for suggestions, and this year is the 20th anniversary of the first book.
Rosie Tipton, fundraising manager for Greater Manchester at Macmillan, said: “We really appreciate Sarah decorating her house every Halloween to raise vital funds for Macmillan.
“I’m sure her Harry Potter theme will weave its magic and draw big crowds, who we hope will give generously.”
