A MAN suspected of murdering a woman at a house in Rochdale last week remains seriously ill in hospital as detectives wait to quiz him over the death.

The 40-year-old was arrested after a 39-year-old woman’s body was found at a terraced house on Birch Crescent, Newhey, at around 11.35pm on Sunday, October 22.

He was suffering from serious injuries and was taken to hospital before police officers arrived at the scene.

He was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police investigating the murder are yet to confirm the victim’s name or any other details.

Speaking the day after the incident Det Supt Howard Millington, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “My thoughts continue to remain with this woman’s loved ones at this devastating time.

“I can’t imagine what they are going through right now.

“We have had a team of officers working on this investigation throughout the night.

“They have acted swiftly and following further enquiries we have now arrested a man on suspicion of murder.

“He is currently being treated at hospital for injuries he sustained prior to his arrest.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident.

“We don’t believe there to be any wider danger to the public.”
