Police hunt burglars after spate of raids

-

A SPATE of burglaries saw thousands of pounds of jewellery stolen within a few hours from homes across Stockport.

Police believe that the break-ins, which all took place on Monday, were the work of the same thieves, who subdued pet dogs at one house.

Two raids were in High Lane, where burglars tampered with a CCTV camera in the back garden of a home of Middlewood Road before smashing a kitchen window to get inside.

It happened some time between 11am and 1.30pm and dogs were locked in a room while jewellery worth £6,000 was stolen from others.

A £2,000 Tag Heuer watch was also stolen from a home on nearby Vicarage Close in a burglary between 10.30am and 2pm. Jewellery was stolen at two other addresses in break-ins through the kitchen window.

These happened at Oxford Drive, Woodley, at around 11am and Hibbert Lane, Marple, between 10am and 12.20pm.

A police spokesman said the burglaries could have followed a period of surveillance by the thieves to establish there were items worth stealing at each home.

He added: “We are linking these incidents because of the times, similar method used and the accessible route between the locations.”
