Which boss slipped Ash’s mind?
ASHLEY Young appeared to airbrush one United manager from history when discussing his renaissance for club and country this week.
Speaking on England duty, the winger repeatedly claimed he had only worked under three managers during his time at Old Trafford.
In fact Jose Mourinho is the fourth permanent United manager he has played for, after Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.
It raises the natural question – which one is Young omitting?
“A lot’s been said about me playing for three different managers at the club,” he said on Wednesday. He was coy when corrected and asked if he’d deliberately omitted one.
It’s safe to assume the 32-year-old remembers Ferguson – the manager who signed him in 2011 and who he won his one Premier League title under. So who was it who slipped his mind? He was a trusted member of David Moyes’ squad – making a total of 31 appearances in the Scot’s ill-fated debut campaign.
He also made 55 appearances in two seasons under Van Gaal.
It was under Mourinho that he admits he had troubled times.
“I think there did come a point last season where I wasn’t in the squad, wasn’t even making the 18,” he said. “It was disappointing, but I have never thought about leaving the club.
“I’ve always got that determination, to get back in the squad and get back playing.
