Salford City seven points clear at top after Phenix grabs winner

SALFORD CITY extended their lead at the top of the National League North table to seven points after a 2-1 win at Tamworth.

The Ammies had to come from behind in the game, as Aman Verma had given Tamworth the lead on 26 minutes.

Mark Shelton levelled things up for Salford on the half hour mark, before Michael Phenix got the winner on 72 minutes to ensure that his side came out on top.

FC UNITED managed to climb out of the relegation zone thanks to a 3-1 win against AFC Telford United at Broadhurst Park.

Telford went ahead after just three minutes when Henry Cowans netted for the visitors, but caretaker player-manager Tom Greaves equalised on 28 minutes.

Jason Gilchrist then netted twice in the second half to earn FC United the victory and put them in 19th place, one point clear of the drop zone.

STOCKPORT COUNTY scored a last-minute equaliser as they earned a point during a 2-2 draw at Boston United.

Boston raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Gregory Smith and Jay Rollins, but Matthew Warburton pulled a goal back for Stockport before James Ball scored in the 90th minutes, leaving the Hatters in ninth place.

CURZON ASHTON also had to settle for a point as they drew 2-2 at home to Southport, with Ben Wharton and Niall Cummins getting the goals for 11th-placed Curzon.

In the National League, second-placed MACCLESFIE­LD TOWN are one point behind Dover after a 2-0 win at Barrow.
