‘Burglar’ is caught after chase

A SUSPECTED burglar was arrested after a manhunt.

Police patrols, a dog unit and a helicopter were deployed during the pursuit of a man in Ashtonunder-Lyne on Monday night.

The suspect was detained in a wood off Newmarket Road, following reports a Ford Zetec crashed into a Transit van at Downing Street.

Officers had been chasing the Zetec after trying to pull it over at Broadoak Road at 11.30pm on Monday.

A man has now been arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving. Two other people were arrested at the scene of the abandoned car. Police have not revealed what the other suspects – a 17-year-old girl and a man whose age has not been released – have been held for.
