‘Bur­glar’ is caught af­ter chase

A SUS­PECTED bur­glar was ar­rested af­ter a manhunt.

Po­lice pa­trols, a dog unit and a he­li­copter were de­ployed dur­ing the pur­suit of a man in Ash­to­nun­der-Lyne on Mon­day night.

The sus­pect was de­tained in a wood off New­mar­ket Road, fol­low­ing re­ports a Ford Zetec crashed into a Tran­sit van at Down­ing Street.

Of­fi­cers had been chas­ing the Zetec af­ter try­ing to pull it over at Broadoak Road at 11.30pm on Mon­day.

A man has now been ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of bur­glary and dan­ger­ous driv­ing. Two other peo­ple were ar­rested at the scene of the aban­doned car. Po­lice have not re­vealed what the other sus­pects – a 17-year-old girl and a man whose age has not been re­leased – have been held for.
