Over here son! Unique hat-trick for goal hero

WIGAN WINGER SCORES TWICE, THEN LEAVES PITCH TO BE AT BIRTH OF HIS CHILD

A FOOTBALL star capped an amazing hat-trick by scoring twice and then dashing off the pitch to be at the birth of his son.

Wigan Atheltic ace Ryan Colclough netted two goals to help fire his side to a 3-0 home win over Doncaster on Tuesday night.

He was then substituted early so he could race from the DW Stadium to the hospital to be at his partner’s side after club bosses got the word her waters had broken.

He later tweeted saying: “What a great result and team effort from all the boys! I’m so happy to mark the birth of my second son with two goals and the win, he made it a hat-trick for me! Appreciate all the messages #UptheTics”

The club’s chairman, David Sharpe, tweeted a picture of Colclough still in his full Latics kit holding the latest addition to his family, Harley Thomas.

He said: “Congrats to Ryan Colclough who scored a brace in our win before being substituted to make it in time to see the birth of his son!”

The picture quickly went viral, with one fan saying: “Wondered why he absolutely legged it down the tunnel on being subbed! Lovely story!”

The 22-year-old winger had put his side 2-0 up on the stroke of half-time in the dominant League One win over struggling Rovers.

Despite getting the message that his partner had gone into labour at half-time, he returned for the second half, and scored again just before the hour mark to wrap up the points.

He was substituted three minutes later to allow him to go and be at her side. Explaining the situation, assistant manager Leam Richardson said: “At half-time we got the message that his missus’ waters had broken, his second child.

“As soon as he got his second goal he was off the pitch, because his head was somewhere else.

“We’re all men, we’re all individuals - some of the players wouldn’t have gone, they’d be still in the dressing room now!

“Others want to get straight out to support their partner, and you respect every individual in what they want to do.”

The win moves Wigan within one point of League One leaders Shrewsbury.
