We weren’t told about time switch of service

-

I AM writing this letter of complaint out of sheer temper as I went to the Remembrance service as normal to Cheadle Hulme Cenotaph.

I got there 10.30am and quite a few other people were there – all looking puzzled when we saw the wreathes had been placed already and were informed the service had already been taken place at 9.30am.

What happened to the minute’s silence at 11am – and telling local people about the change of our customs once again?

There was a notice board there but nothing was on about the change of plans.

When the council wants us to vote for them leaflets are put through the doors.

I am really disgusted about it all. Pauline Gregory, Cheadle Hulme

Give disabled more respect

I AM a woman who will be 73 next month. I have osteoarthritis of the spine and hips. My son is my fulltime carer as I cannot get up the stairs to use the toilet, have a bath or sleep in my bed.

I have to wash in a bowl in the kitchen, use a commode in the lobby, and try to sleep on my sofa.

It is too painful to lie down for too long on the sofa, I have to try and sleep sitting up, which is almost impossible most of the time. I therefore sleep very little.

I was assessed for a stairlift and a wet room by a social worker, who agreed I needed them, so I could live a decent life.

However, the person who decides if you get the adaptations refused me three times, and offered me rehousing instead.

I have lived in this house for 40 years next year, and put quite a bit of money into my home over that time. Because I said I didn’t want to move, they have refused me the adaptations I so desperately need.

I have friends and family close-by on this estate, who are a great support system.

I feel very strongly about this. I think people like me get the shortend of the stick. It’s about time people knew how some people who have a disability are treated.

I have been given everything else they think I may need, including a blue badge. But for some reason they think it’s right that I have to live my life in two rooms and a lobby.

They want me to up sticks and go and live in a strange area, not knowing anyone. That can’t be right.

I told the woman who refused my adaptations that my body may be useless, but there’s nothing wrong with my brain, and that I will go as far as I have to get what I feel is my right. J Carlon, Newton Heath

Remember HIV victims

ON the December 1 Manchester – with the rest of the world – will remember those that we have lost to HIV.

HIV has not gone away and all of us need to still use protection to prevent the virus ever claiming and destroying lives.

I does not care about your sexualisation, age, religion etc and it effects us all either directly or indirectly, so prevention is better than cure (for which there is no cure).

Look after yourself and each other – not just on December 1, but everyday. G Jarvis, Gorton

New system is so callous

THE new Universal Credit benefit system is proving to be mistakeridden and is about to cover the whole country and cause great misery wherever it lands.

Perhaps it should be renamed ‘Universal Callousness’ – because it is leaving many claimants without money for weeks on end and relying on food banks.

Come on, Theresa May, you can do better than this. Stop putting compassion on the ration.

We don’t need another poll taxlike fiasco. Max Nottingham
