Even Reds legend Cantona prefers Pep’s style of play

CITY’S incredible start to the season has gained them an unlikely admirer – United legend Eric Cantona.

The Blues have won 18 games in a row and their ruthless attacking displays have seen Pep Guardiola’s side take an eight-point advantage in the Premier League as well as securing top spot in Champions League Group F.

And even Old Trafford legend Cantona has admitted he prefers City’s brand of football.

The enigmatic Frenchman is a Reds hero but that didn’t stop him from lauding the efforts of Pep’s men.

Jose Mourinho’s side have scored 11 goals fewer than City this season, and lost four matches, compared with the Blues’ unbeaten run.

And speaking with Five Live, Cantona revealed he would prefer it if Guardiola was United manager. “I loved Cruyff when he was the manager of Barcelona, I love Ajax in the seventies,” he said.

“I grew up with this kind of football, and the football we played with Ferguson is very creative. It’s more ‘Manchester United’ I think.

“It’s why I prefer the way Guardiola plays, and I would prefer to have him as manager of Manchester United. It’s more logical. I just can’t understand why Manchester United takes a manager who plays in a defensive way.

“I don’t watch Manchester City, because it’s Manchester City, but I would love to play in the team managed by Guardiola.”
