You’re invited to 21st party to remember

JAMES HAS RECEIVED THOUSANDS OF CARDS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

- By SAM YARWOOD

THE family of an autistic young man who has struggled to make friends are throwing him a 21st birthday party to remember – and YOUR are invited.

College student James Weir has already received thousands of birthday cards and gifts from wellwishers across the world after a Facebook appeal by sister Lucy.

She explained that because of James’ condition, he finds it difficult to socialise and make friends. Seeing him alone so often breaks her family’s heart, so Lucy began a mission to make sure he had the best birthday ever.

Last month the M.E.N. reported how Lucy, who lives in Bolton, posted on social media asking people to help surprise James by sending him a birthday card or special message.

In just days the family were inundated with post, so much so the Royal Mail had to begin delivering it in mail bags and crates. Lucy also received more than 6,000 emails – replying individually to each one.

Birthday greetings have been sent from across the globe, with James’ story appearing in the media in countries as far away as Mexico.

The family were planning a quiet celebration, but after so many people asked if James was having a party, they have decided to throw him one... and it’s tomorrow. His mum April says that Yates in Bolton have offered a room for free, and a DJ from Birmingham will be travelling up, again free of charge.

She posted on James’ dedicated Facebook page ‘James Weir is 21,’ which has more than 3,400 followers, inviting people along to meet James.

April wrote: “After much deliberation over whether to have a 21st party for James, we have decided that we will.

“We have kindly been offered a large room at Yates in Bolton Town Centre on the evening of the 30th November. “Lots of local people have asked if we were having a party as they wanted to just call by and say hello.

“So if you would like to drop by (kids welcome) and join James on his birthday you are welcome, though we will need an idea as to how many may want to come.” The party will begin at 6pm, at Yates on Bradshawgate in Bolton. Anyone attending contact April at aprilweir61@googlemail.com.
