Price happy to take on Tyson

- BOXING By SHELDAN KEAY @MENSports

DAVID Price says he would be more than happy to face Tyson Fury on his expected return to the ring next year.

Fury is set to finally have his hearing with UKAD next month, and that should lead the way to him getting cleared to fight again in 2018.

Price and Fury were big rivals a few years ago, and the possibility of them fighting has again been floated, something the Liverpool fighter says he has no problems with.

“If that’s something that Tyson Fury is serious about, I’d love the opportunity to finally get in the ring again with him and put the rivalry to bed,” said Price.

“You have to be realistic, though – he’s the lineal heavyweight champion and I’ve got to prove my worth. I’m sure I’m going to do that in the next couple of fights and the heavyweight division is changing all the time.

“A few fights down the line, a fight against Fury would be massive for boxing again. I just have to get my name back out there again with a good couple of wins and it will capture the public’s imagination.

“We’ve got history but, to be fair, when it became apparent that we’d no longer be likely to fight each other, naturally we warmed to each other.

“That tends to happen in boxing and we actually quite like each other at the moment. But if we were to fight each other, I’m sure it would only take one cross word for us to be worst enemies again!”

Meanwhile, Fury has admitted he may have been ‘a bigot, a sexist and a homophobe’ – but insists the allegation he is a drugs cheat is a step too far. Fury, who linked homosexuality and abortion to paedophilia in an interview last year, told IFL TV: “Of all the things I’ve been called – a bigot, a sexist, a homophobe – I may have been those but the one thing I’m not is a drugs cheat.

“That’s the worst a sportsman can be. I will not be forced to admit anything I have not done.”

The 29-year-old added: “This time I want to be myself, I don’t want to play a character any more.

“I want the public to see me, the people’s champion, the happy-golucky Tyson Fury. Not the confident, brash character to sell tickets

“I feel I have a story to tell, a massive one. The stuff I’ve been through, depression, mental health problems. It can help and inspire others. From rags to riches to rags again.

“From 18 stone to 27. From a clean living man to drugs and alcohol and back to the heavyweight world champion again. I hope the legacy and story I leave behind will help others in the future of what to do and not to do.”
