CITY It’s no good parking bus
VINCENT Kompany insists City will not be stopped by rivals parking the bus.
The runaway Premier League leaders have survived two frights against Huddersfield and Southampton in the past week – with late goals from Raheem Sterling maintaining their incredible winning run.
And Kompany believes those experiences will only convince Pep Guardiola’s players that they can overcome any opposition. Reflecting on Sterling 96th-minute winner against Southampton, he said: “There’s nothing better than to realise that it can always happen.
“As long as the referee has not blown the whistle there is still the opportunity to do something.
“These guys will have experienced it now, they’ll understand that it’s possible, it happens that way, if not every time then at least more often than not when you take this approach.”
Kompany believes the near success of Huddersfield and Southampther ton may convince others to emulate their approach against City.
But the Belgian international remains convinced City will continue to find a way through.
“I said it’s a challenge we’re facing now but we’re adapting and we’ll be evolving to that as well,” he said. “We have to get used to that kind of style, it’s only happened in the last two games and we’ll find a way to overrule it.
“I can see a period of time where teams will try to play this approach out, but as teams will need points eventually, as teams will need to fur- their own agenda, I think it will settle again and we will have a more open game with both teams trying to win it.
“But in this case it’s proven nearly successful for the teams who did it, but at the same time as they’re adopting this approach we’re learning how to deal with it. No team wins four or five nil every single game and if we would have thought that then it would have been ludicrous.”
City can equal Chelsea’s Premier League record of 13 straight wins with victory against West Ham on Sunday. But Kompany’s focus is on bigger goals. “I can’t even keep track of them (the records) – I’m not paying attention too much,” he added.
“I’ve got to be honest, I’m just living for my profession right now, enjoying getting ready for the game and finding out about the opponent, about myself, and just exploiting the weaknesses.
“It’s really about the next game, getting ready for that one and just make sure that we don’t concede chances, don’t concede goals, score goals, give all our strikers the opportunities to be in good positions and then enjoy and hopefully win.”
