Beaumont hands Sale a major injury boost

- RUGBY UNION

JOSH Beaumont is set to hand Sale an early Christmas present with a return to action following injury lay-off.

The lock-forward has been sidelined since early October after sustaining a torn bicep in the Sharks’ Premiership clash at Harlequins.

Beaumont has been beset by bad luck, having had to overcome a dislocated shoulder sustained early in 2016. But following surgery and an intensive spell of rehabilitation, he is ahead of schedule in his recovery and revealed he is hoping to make his welcome return in the New Year.

“Hopefully I’m looking at being back in action around four weeks from now. The realistic target is for the first game in the New Year,” said Beaumont.

“I knew straight away I had torn the bicep but, fortunately, it’s quite a common injury and it only required a routine operation and certainly compared to my shoulder injuries, it has been going well.

“You get used to dealing with injuries, though each injury you get you do tend to get more frustrated.

“This one has not been a bad one to come back from.

“The recovery has all been physio-led but I had a couple of knee issues as well so it has given me chance to sort them out too so it does allow you the time and space to fully recover and to come back as strong as ever. The key thing is being patient and ensuring you come back at the right time.

“Last season, I probably came back too soon as I wasn’t quite ready with my shoulder.”
