Pogba isn’t a top player! Sou have to be joking...
HOWEVER well Paul Pogba plays for United, he seems to be on the end of bizarre criticism from a certain section of the game’s analysts.
Garth Crooks has a welladvertised problem with the midfielder’s hair, which he often expresses as being just as important as his footballing ability.
And now Graeme Souness has questioned his ‘basic understanding’ of the game - just days after Pogba’s influential display in United’s win against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Pogba has been one of the Reds’ best players this term, and was badly missed when he was absent with a hamstring injury. But his £89m price tag and social media activities have been used by critics to temper his achievements.
And former Liverpool man Souness has now claimed the French international will never be a top player because he does not possess the understanding of the game that is commonly learned in the academy.
Souness told TV3: “When he is on the ball, there’s lots of things to admire. He’s powerful, he’s got good technique, he can wrong-foot people, he can ping the ball.
“Where I question him, whether he’ll ever be a top player, is his understanding of the game.
“This isn’t me being an ex-Liverpool player caning a Man Utd player. I thought the same when he was a Juventus player.
“That is basic stuff you learn in the youth team. He’s 24 years old if he’s not got it now when is he gonna get it?
“He hasn’t taken a big game by the scruff of the neck and dominated it.”
