Fury: I was never going to back down

- By SHELDAN KEAY

TYSON Fury says he is ready to reclaim the world titles that are rightfully his after he was cleared by UK Anti-Doping to make his return to the ring.

The Manchester heavyweight has accepted a backdated two-year doping ban from UKAD.

Tyson, along with his cousin Hughie, were accused of testing positive for banned steroid nandrolone in February 2015, but the pair are now able to continue their careers. Fury is delighted that the long ordeal is finally over, and he insists he was not going to back down without fighting the charge.

“I’m a fighting man through and through and I’ve never backed down from anyone in my life and I was certainly not going to back down from fighting this dispute,” said the former world champion, who is keen to regain the titles he never lost in the ring.

“Hughie and I have maintained our innocence from day one and we’re now happy that it has finally been settled with UKAD and that we can move forward knowing that we’ll not be labelled drug cheats.

“I can now put the nightmare of the last two years behind me, which has been particularly hard on my family, but with their support and strength, along with my uncle Peter, Hennessy Sports and Morgan Sports Law, we’ve fought through relentlessly together and I can now enjoy Christmas with my family and new born daughter.”
