Kompany K.O. as Pep turns to Swans

PEP Guardiola has confirmed Vincent Kompany will miss City’s trip to face Swansea City in the Premier League.

The City captain was substituted at half-time during the Blues’ 2-1 derby win over United on Sunday and will not feature tonight.

Kompany pulled out of the defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk last week following concerns he ‘didn’t feel well’ and the 31-year-old wasn’t fully fit for the derby.

And, despite putting in a solid display, the Belgian defender was replaced at the break by Ilkay Gundogan at Old Trafford with a muscle injury. While Guardiola confirmed his captain is currently unavailable for selection, he did reveal that Kompany will be back in contention soon.

“He [Kompany] can’t play at Swansea,” said Guardiola at yesterday’s press conference.

“I think it is less than we expected so hopefully he is back in a short time, but I don’t know. “He has a muscular injury.” City set an English top-flight record with their 14th win in a row on the weekend and while the Blues’ manager was delighted by the performance he wants to forget the derby.

Guardiola is now keen to concentrate on league matters ahead of the midweek trip. “The game was good, we played our way,” he said. “I said to my players forget about what happened and focus on Swansea and after that Tottenham.”
