‘I am very happy with Rom’s form’
JOSE Mourinho has defended United striker Romelu Lukaku after his derby debut on Sunday.
Lukaku contributed to both of City’s goals in the 2-1 defeat and spurned a presentable chance to equalise in the 86th minute.
City sources then claimed Lukaku attempted to enter their dressing room during the melee after the match, and it was reported Lukaku launched a bottle as tensions boiled over. City coach Mikel Arteta suffered a cut face but it is understood Lukaku was not responsible for inflicting the injury.
M.E.N. Sport understands 15 people were involved in the spat which was sparked by Mourinho requesting City celebrate in a more dignified manner.
Music blared from the visitors’ dressing room. That antagonised Mourinho and Lukaku, and the United manager was asked whether he wanted to defend the Belgian amid the accusations.
“You know, accuse? Prove? Show evidence and punish him,” Mourinho said. “I know [my players behaved]. I am not confident – I know.”
Lukaku has scored two in his last 14 United games and Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be close to making his first start since returning from injury last month.
“No, I am not,” Mourinho replied when he was asked if he was concerned by Lukaku’s form. “I am very happy with Lukaku.”
The Portuguese then accused the assembled media of disrespecting Bournemouth before he walked out after five minutes.
