Pogba says he followed his heart by joining Reds over Madrid
PAUL Pogba has revealed he followed his heart in choosing to join United over Real Madrid last year.
The Frenchman left Old Trafford in 2012 for Juventus, and made a sensational return to Manchester four years’ later for a then world-record £89m fee in Jose Mourinho’s first summer at the club.
But Pogba was also a target for Real Madrid ahead of his move to Old Trafford and had a choice between the two clubs.
He admitted that he was approached by the Spanish giants and was considering the move, but his heart led him back to United, the club he represented during his youth career.
Pogba told the Beyond the Pitch podcast: “To be honest, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too.
“But I always felt it in my heart.
“My heart told me to come back here, I don’t know why, I didn’t know what was going to happen.
“But I did it, and I don’t regret. I never regret my choice.”
In his first season back in Manchester, Pogba won two trophies – the Europa League and EFL Cup – and helped United return to the Champions League.
The Frenchman netted in the EFL Cup semi-final to send United to Wembley, while he also scored in the final of the Europa League in Stockholm.
