PEP Guardiola was elated after seeing his City side make history.

Not only have 15 consecutive wins been enough to seen the Blues 11 points clear at the top of the table, it is a feat that has never before been achieved in the English top flight.

City’s coach now holds the record for the longest winning streak in three of the big five leagues in Europe, having managed 16 in a row with Barcelona and 19 with Bayern Munich.

And he is well aware of the quality of English teams previous that this City side have outstripped.

“I am so happy because our job depends on if we win, so if we win we are so happy in our lives and in our jobs,” he said after the Swansea game.

“In history there were amazing things like Liverpool in the 80s and United with Sir Alex Ferguson or Chelsea with Jose Mourinho there were some amazing teams.

“But we are the first ones to win 15 in a row.

“If we win the title it will just be a record and this record will be broken but of course it will not be easy because 15 games in a row in the Premier League in this period is really complicated. Of course we were lucky in some moments and we scored in the last minutes, I remember at Bournemouth for example.

“But it means a lot in the faith and desire to win again, and again and again.

“We are going to try not to stop to show that feeling to the fans, so when they watch us they know the guys want to win again and again and again.

“We want to try to maintain it as much as possible.”

City outclassed Swansea on the night, completing more than 600 more passes than their hosts and enjoying nearly 80 per cent possession as they eased to a 4-0 win.

David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero got the goals and will be expected to start again on Saturday against Spurs.

But having made four changes from the win over Old Trafford, Guardiola was pleased with the way his replacements integrated into the first team despite their lack of game time.

“We played so good, especially after an Old Trafford game,” he said.

“It is always complicated to be ready again to do what we have to do to win but we did it and I am very pleased, especially for Danilo, [Eliaquim] Mangala and Bernardo Silva, who didn’t play too much.

“To win we need everybody to do it but the way we played was really good.

“We are so happy with three points and 15 victories in a row, that is amazing.

“It was a good night for us.
