Deadline delay after derby bust-up
UNITED and City have been given more time to submit their observations to the FA over the incident after the derby.
Both clubs were told they had to give their statements to the association by 6pm yesterday.
But the FA have now extended the deadline until 6pm tomorrow.
Jose Mourinho approached the away dressing room following City’s 2-1 win on Sunday to ask them to be more respectful with their celebrations.
It is believed a shouting match then ensued between the Reds boss and City keeper Ederson before water and milk were thrown. Blues coach Mikel Arteta is understood to have suffered a cut to the face in the melee, which involved up to 20 players and staff in a corridor near the dressing rooms.
Pep Guardiola defended the celebrations of his team, saying: “Our intentions were to celebrate, inside the locker room. If the people cannot understand that then I’m sorry.
“We were so happy, we won a derby. If in that way we offended United - not just one player, not (just) Jose - then I apologise. We have huge respect for our opponents - not just Manchester United, all the opponents.”
Mourinho said City’s actions showed how different the two sets of players are.
“For me it was just a question of diversity - diversity in behaviours, diversity in education. Just that and nothing more than that,” he said.
