Remainers throwing spanner in the works

-

IT is clear from B Niemand’s letter (Time to say sorry to EU, Viewpoints,

December 21) they are a very strong supporter of those wishing to remain in the EU.

But there is a very strong element of prejudice evident in the letter submitted, which can be clearly seen when you examine the facts.

The letter quotes a line from Viewpoints on December 19 which states “I did not vote for this mess”.

The problem with that statement is that it ignores a large chunk of the reasons why the negotiations are continually facing difficult hurdles.

And the main reasons why Theresa May and the British team of negotiators are facing such difficult hurdles, continuously, is because many remainers in Parliament, like Ken Clarke, who is named in the letter, are endlessly trying to throw a spanner in the works in order to ensure that Brexit does not succeed at all.

Because Theresa May only has a wafer thin majority in the House of Commons, she has no choice but to be accommodating to the remainers in her own party. If not, her Tory government is likely to be totally brought down.

So the situation is that the remainers in the country are continually sniping at the ineffectiveness of the British team. But, the reality is that it is the remainers in the Commons who are causing the British team to appear weak because they are not backing them. Hence the recent vote in the Commons where 11 Tory rebels voted against the government in favour of an amendment which caused the them to lose the vote.

This could have possibly led to the government being brought down had not some of the other surrounding circumstances gone better for the government (including a little support from the EU itself). Howard Gardner, Sale
