Vote for your favourite boozer

VOTING IS NOW OPEN FOR CITYLIFE HONOURS AND HERE IS OUR SHORTLIST FOR THE BEST PUBS ACROSS MANCHESTER...

- By SIMON BINNS newsdesk@men-news.co.uk @CityLifeManc

IS there anywhere better to be in the world than in the pub?

Luckily, Manchester is blessed with loads of great boozers, from some of the city’s older established names to young(ish) upstarts from the craft beer revolution of the last few years.

Manchester has a rich seam of breweries, brew taps, beer masters and craft ale makers - and punters have no shortages of pubs to buy them from.

Voting is open now in a host of categories for the CityLife Awards 2018 and winners will be announced at a bash next month.

Here’s our shortlist for the Pub of the Year crown. Please remember to vote responsibly...!

The Smithfield The Smithfield continues to forge a path for the ‘new’ version of the traditional pub. The Blackjack Brewery team have gone for evolution rather than revolution, stocking a cracking range of their own beers and plenty of guest ales and quirky brews from other local beer makers.

Yes there is darts, yes there is a great gin range - and the pub has helped the Swan Street area become a destination for beer lovers in its own right.

Marble Arch It might seem cliché to see Marble Arch on a best pub shortlist. It’s on every list, every year. But how can you leave it out? Put simply, the Marble Arch has been showing others how it’s done for years and years, with bags of charm and character to boot. The bar is a cornucopia for beer lovers and the food menu is back on point. The main outpost of the Marble brewery continues to impress, despite counting as an elder statesman in Manchester’s craft beer revolution.

Crown & Kettle Aside from its stunning ceiling and impressive interior, the Grade-II listed Crown and Kettle continues to serve up a diverse range of beers and ciders - to customers. At last count, they had more than 30 types of cider available and the pub is often named among Britain’s best, not just a local favourite. Local breweries are regulars on tap, with good guest ales from further afield. And it has a snug.

The Pilcrow If you want a good pub, sometimes you just have to built it yourself. And that’s exactly what the team behind The Pilcrow did.

Tucked away from the madding crowd on Sadlers Yard, everything in there was made by local craftspeople - from the beer you drink to the bar stool you sit on.

Operated by Oh Ok, The Pilcrow has become a satisfying find on any beer lover’s city centre crawl.

Port St Beer House Since 2010, Port Street has been showing Manchester’s beer lovers the new wave of ales - as well as some of the more weird and wonderful brews out there.

Special events, tap takeovers, collaborations - Port Street does the lot - and now they have a growler station where you can fill up on a few pints of your favourite to take home.

A pub that never rest on its laurels - and it has plenty of them.
