AMIR Khan is promising a ‘shock announcement’ in the next ten days as he nears a return to the ring.

The Bolton boxer is preparing to return to training in America ahead of a planned fight in March, which would be his first contest since losing to Canelo Alvarez back in May 2016.

The 31-year-old has recently completed a stint on reality TV show I’m A Celebrity, and he insists he is now fully focused on resuming his boxing career.

He hopes his next fight will take place in the UK, but has teased fans with a forthcoming announcement which will surprise everybody.

“There are some big, big announcements that I will make within the next ten days before I go back to training camp in America. This is news that everyone is going to be shocked hearing,” he said.

“I haven’t fought in the UK for several years. It is time to come back home now so I am looking at fighting in March.

“Then I plan to fight again in the UK around September time and then at the end of the year I want a big fight, wherever that is.”

Khan has expressed his desire to win another world title in 2018, and has been linked with a fight with WBA champion Keith Thurman.

He is also keen to avenge some of the defeats he suffered earlier in his career – with rumours of potential fights with the likes of Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson also an option.

Khan has a record of 31 wins and four defeats during his career, and held the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles after wins against the likes of Marcos Maidana, Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi.

A key factor in Khan’s long absence away from the ring has been due to a nagging hand injury, which he now says is no longer bothering him.

He also appeared to change some of the public’s perception surrounding him during his time on I’m A Celebrity, and he says it was a positive experience taking part in the show.

“It was like a detox, being with new friends, being away from your home. If I was sat at home not doing anything, I would have got depressed.

“I would have got so bored, I wouldn’t have known what to do with myself,” he said.

“Now knowing I don’t have to go into a boxing ring or go into training camps having injections in my hand, I am going to be more confident.

“The straight right is my best shot so I can’t wait to use it properly. “It feels better than ever. “All my career I have had this pain and now to have none is amazing.”
