Community to help search for missing Steven

FACEBOOK PAGE LAUNCHED AND SEARCHES PLANNED TO TRY AND FIND MAN WHO WENT MISSING AFTER NYE PARTY

- By PAUL BRITTON

A COMMUNITY is rallying round to help search for a young man missing following a suspected attack at a New Year’s Eve party.

Steven Dyson, 22, did not return to his Bury home on January 1.

Police believe he may have been assaulted at a party on St Andrew’s Close, Ramsbottom, in the early hours of New Year’s Day and could need urgent medical attention.

Members of the public have now banded together to launch organised searches.

A Facebook page - Find Steven Dyson - has been set up and volunteers have pledged to get involved in two search operations.

One group was meeting at the Royal British Legion in Ramsbottom at 9.30am on Thursday for a daytime search. A post on the page reads: “Please make sure you have comfortable, sensible shoes and a mobile phone if possible.

“We have a list of areas where the police have advised us to search and will be taking names and contact details of groups going out and details of the times they leave, and asking them to check-in when they have finished.

“This is a community effort and is not being run by the police. Anyone who wants to go searching on their own does so of their own accord.”

A second search has also been arranged for Thursday evening. Groups are due to gather from 5pm to scour a list of areas and locations.

A post to the page added: “More places may be added.

“This is totally dependant on how many people turn up and can help.

“If you are coming to help search please wrap up and wear suitable footwear. Be mindful of others and mindful of police investigations and their wishes. We have been specifically asked to stay away from river ways by the police. We are trying to organise the best we possibly can and all ideas are welcome.”

Steven attended the party after going to the Grey Mere Pub on Bolton Street and Longsight Service Station on Longsight Road in Bury at around 3am on New Year’s Day.

He is then believed to have been attacked at the party, which he left around 9am.

Steven is white, 5ft 11ins tall and slim with short dark hair which is longer on the top. He was wearing a leather jacket with a grey top, black skinny jeans and grey boots.
