PEP Guardiola is on course to win at least one trophy this season with City, and he could also have a hand in the destination of the World Cup.

Four of his players - Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling, John Stones, and Fabian Delph - are expected to be part of the England squad in Russia.

And if Gareth Southgate wants any advice from the manager presiding over the team talked about as the best in Europe this season, he will be openly received.

“Of course, I would be willing to help the FA,” said Guardiola.

“They don’t know it but I will learn from them as well. I’m pretty sure of that.

‘When this happens I try to be smart to take something from them as we can always learn. That is why I’m here in England and why I went to Germany — to learn a different perspective of ways.

“When I was a young manager I travelled around the world to be with other managers so they could explain to me their secrets and what they think and believe.

“It was a gift to speak with managers who opened the doors to explain to me what they believed about the profession, about the locker rooms, about the tactics.

“So of course I will help – but at the end every coach has to do what they believe.

“Don’t follow me because I have success now – that is a big mistake.”
