UNITED V DERBY COUNTY MOURINHO:

JOSE Mourinho insists he is passionate about his job, despite not behaving like a ‘clown’ on the touchline.

The United manager has been a restrained presence in the technical area during his 18 months in charge at Old Trafford, whereas Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte have become renowned for their animated behaviour.

Mourinho had spats with both bosses last season, and Conte is doing yoga to try and curb his exuberance during games.

City’s Pep Guardiola was asked by the FA to explain his decision to confront Southampton winger Nathan Redmond in November, having celebrated Raheem Sterling’s stoppage-time winner on the pitch. Mourinho was asked whether he resented his short-term identity at clubs amid speculation over his future, which he rubbished as ‘garbage.’

“Look to my history and see how many teams I built, it’s as simple as that,” Mourinho said.

When he was asked if he had the hunger and desire to continue to compete, he replied: “Because I don’t behave as a clown on the touchline it means that I lost my passion?

“I prefer to do it the way I do it, much more mature, better for my team, better for myself, I don’t think you have to behave like a crazy guy on the touch- line. That pas- sion, you see it every day, and the way a per- son is dedicated to his work, not what you do in front of the cameras.”

United entertain Championship club Derby County in the FA Cup third round tonight and Mourinho insists his side face a Premier League-standard side in The Rams. “I always give a lot of respect to the cups,” Mourinho added. “Of course the FA Cup is special in relation to the League Cup but I think I was one of the first managers of the top teams to go to the League Cup and win it, I started that in 2004. “The cup is a beautiful competition, so let’s try to win it, let’s try to enjoy the knockouts, respect the competition, respect the opponents, so you can imagine that being the FA Cup, the most important domestic cup in England, that you always try. “I won it [the FA Cup] once, the League Cup I did four times, would I like to win a second one? Of course I would and we are going to try. “The draw was not nice to us because we are going to play against a Premier League team. They are not Championship players, they are Premier League players.” Jose Mourinho
