Mum-to-be in flats fire

-

RESIDENTS had to run for safety when a fire broke out at a block of flats in Stockport.

A pregnant woman is believed to be one of around 20 people who were all forced to flee the three-storey building in Offerton.

The blaze started at the flats on Woodlands Drive at around 7.30pm last night. When crews arrived at the scene they found a fire inside a first floor flat.

Residents evacuated the building before firefighters arrived. Nobody was injured during the incident.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and is now being investigated by Greater Manchester Police.

One neighbour said: “We can’t tell what the damage is yet but the people living in the building are not allowed back in. There are police cars and fire engines still outside the building.

“The woman living above that flat is pregnant but luckily they were awake and they saw smoke billowing up past their window.”
