Way now clear for Heffron to go for title
MARK Heffron is set to challenge for the British middleweight title later this year after Liam Cameron pulled out of their final eliminator.
Heffron and Cameron were expected to face each other later this year, with the winner getting a shot at the Lonsdale belt, but instead it appears that Heffron will get a straight shot at the belt.
The title is currently scheduled to be on the line next month when champion Tommy Langford defends against Jack Arnfield, and Heffron plans on being there to see who will be his future opponent.
“Just had the news Liam Cameron has pulled out of our final eliminator for the British title, I wish him all the best and hopefully we can meet down the line,” he said.
“The great news for me is that I now get a straight shot for the British title. The winner of Langford vs Arnfield has to fight me next.
“I will now be looking to take a warm-up over the next couple of months, and will be ringside to watch the Langford vs Arnfield fight in February.”
Heffron is unbeaten in his professional career, having won all 18 of the fights since making his debut, with 14 of those wins coming by knockout.
He has spent his career competing in the supermiddleweight division, but will now drop to middleweight to fight at 160 pounds.
Langford has a record of 19 wins and one defeat, while Arnfield has won 25 and lost just two fights.
