-

ArMEd robbers threatened staff and stole cash from a branch of Sainsbury’s.

Two men carrying weapons entered the Sainsbury’s Local, on Washway road, Sale, shortly before 9.20pm on Thursday.

They demanded money from staff and then fled on foot with their haul.

A police spokeswoman confirmed nobody was injured in the incident.

No arrests have been made and police are hunting for the offenders.

The police spokeswoman said: “At 9.18pm we were called to an armed robbery on Washway road. Nobody was hurt. Two men have gone through the main entrance. They approach staff and demand money, then left with a quantity of cash.”

Witnesses in the area said they saw the shop was locked up and there was a large police presence. One passerby posted on Facebook: “The police were flying from Altrincham towards Sale, lights flashing and sirens blaring.

“So it must have been responding to that awful thing.”
