A MURDER investigation is under way after a man died following a fight inside a pub.

Tributes are being paid to a muchloved father-of-two who was known in Hindley, Wigan, by the nickname ‘Baggo.’ He’s described in Facebook posts as ‘a legend and a true gent.’

The tragedy happened at the Georgia Brown’s pub on Market Street in Hindley on Saturday night.

Police said the 51-year-old was given first aid at the scene then taken to hospital, where he later died.

Two men, aged 27 and 29, were arrested on suspicion of murder. Both were still being questioned in custody yesterday, Greater Manchester Police said.

Writing on Facebook, the pub said it was closed as a mark of respect and described him as a ‘lovely guy.’

Tributes have flooded in on social media.

Jonny Hart, also writing on Facebook, said: “Lovely guy. Always said hello and would talk to you if you was passing or in the pub.

“Why anyone would lay a finger on Baggo? I can’t understand. He wouldn’t harm a fly. Devastating news.”

Darren Prescott added: “Sad. He was a gentle man, a lovely bloke.”

Ben Brown posted: “Another Hindley legend taken! RIP Baggo pal, u will be truly missed.”

Police were called to the scene at around 11.30pm on Saturday following 999 reports of an assault. The man’s family have been informed although formal identification has not yet taken place.”

An exact cause of death also hasn’t been established, police said.

Chief Superintendent Phil Davies appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “This is such a sad situation, an absolute tragedy. My thoughts are with the man’s family at this devastating time.

“Our specialist support officers are with them to support them.

“While we are not searching for anyone else in connection with this incident, we are appealing for witnesses to come forward to let us know what they saw.
