Corrie star tells all about why he got ‘the shakes’
CORONATION Street actor Rob Mallard has been flooded with support from fans after revealing the real reason why he appeared to be shaking when he appeared on This Morning.
Rob, who plays Daniel Osbourne in the soap, spoke out following talk that the actor had appeared ‘nervous’ on the ITV1 chat show sofa. He took to Twitter to confirm he has an essential tremor, a neurological disorder that causes involuntary shaking.
He tweeted: “Before any other papers write about this let me disabuse you: I have an essential tremor. Phew! Feels so good to come out. #not awkward.”
Cindy Louise tweeted: “I thought the interview was brilliant. Don’t know what all the fuss is about. You were lovely and charming as always.”
Another fan said: “Good for you to say it! My friend has this and people are always asking her if she’s cold or nervous!”
Oldham actor Rob received messages from followers who also have an essential tremor, saying the condition needs more awareness.
One said: “I have essential tremor too, it is horrible. People can be so rude. It needs more awareness.”
And another tweeted to Rob: “People are surprisingly unaware of tremors. I’m constantly having to explain I’ve got an essential tremor, and not shaking from terror/withdrawal/excitement 24/7.”
Rob, whose troubled character Daniel has seen sparks fly with older woman Carla Connor since she returned to the cobbles at Christmas, was on This Morning last week to talk about his National Television Awards nomination alongside co-star Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt.
Rob, whose character was at the centre of a gripping whodunnit for pushing his dad Ken Barlow down the stairs last year, has been nominated for best newcomer. Troubled Daniel was also part of a love triangle after falling for factory worker Sinead Tinker, who left Chesney Brown for him. Sinead recently got back with Chesney but the kebab shop worker angered viewers by ditching her on their wedding day.
