THE Manchester Evening News will broadcast the Greater Manchester Marathon live to tens of thousands of people in a regional first.

Our partnership with Xtra Mile Events, organisers of the run, means you will be able to see your loved ones as they take on the 26.2-mile course on Sunday, April 8.

The We Stand Together team of runners will also be seen crossing the finish line – and being interviewed minutes after they finish.

The live stream will start at 8.30am and will feature pre-recorded footage and live interviews. The race will start at 9am. A static camera on the finish line will start broadcasting from 11am.

MEN Media editor-inchief Rob Irvine said: “This is a truly exciting and revolutionary project as we believe this is the first time a regional media group will be broadcasting a live UK marathon.

“While thousands of spectators will be lining the streets of Trafford and Manchester to cheer on the runners, our live streaming of the event will allow thousands of viewers from across the UK and around the world the opportunity to shout at their laptops, iPads and mobiles as they support their friends and family in this world-class, fast and friendly marathon.” Nick Rusling, CEO of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon and Manchester Half Marathon, said: “We are delighted to have agreed this groundbreaking partnership with M.E.N. to livestream the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in April. “The M.E.N. website is the biggest regional news website in the UK, which makes it an excellent home for the truly thrilling event coverage we expect to produce with our partners, AWOL Media Productions. “We look forward to working with M.E.N. to ensure the flattest, fastest and friendliest marathon can be seen by viewers across the region and beyond.” The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon is organised by Xtra Mile Events in partnership with Trafford council. Other event partners include Optimum Nutrition, Emirates Old Trafford, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Hilton Garden Inn, Erdinger Alkoholfrei, Official National Charities – such as Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer’s Society, and JustGiving – and local charities including The Christie and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
