Matic: ‘There’s more to come from Martial’

- By CIARAN KELLY

ANTHONY Martial ‘can still improve’ despite his remarkable start to 2018, team-mate Nemanja Matic has warned.

The 22-year-old grabbed his 11th goal of the season in United’s 1-0 win against Burnley last Saturday with a trademark ice-cool finish after another brilliant assist from Romelu Lukaku.

Martial has now been involved in five goals in his first four games of 2018, scoring three and creating two more, and is finally nailing down that position on the left wing amid intense competition from Marcus Rashford.

And Matic believes the sky is the limit for the Frenchman in this kind of form.

“Anthony is a great player as you know and he scored an important goal today,” he told reporters after the hard-fought win at Turf Moor.

“He is very important for our club, our team. He’s still young and can still improve. I’m sure he with help us a lot.”

Matic realises the huge task ahead for United in trying to catch rivals City with just 14 games of the season left.

“It’s going to be hard because Man City is a very, very good team with a lot of good players so we will see if they can drop some points at some stage but we cannot think about them,” he added.

“We have to think about us, to work hard to win game by game and we will see at the end. Anything can happen.”
