Woman, 75, tied up by violent, masked robbers in her home in daylight
A 75-YEAR-OLD woman was tied up and locked in her bathroom by violent masked raiders who she disturbed in the daytime.
The trio of men smashed through the patio doors of the victim’s house in Heaton Moor, Stockport. When she returned home at around 1.55pm she discovered the burglars searching for items inside.
The three men, who were wearing balaclavas, threw her onto the floor when she confronted them. They dragged her upstairs, demanded valuables, then tied her up before locking her inside the bathroom.
The robbers stole cash and sentimental jewellery, leaving the property damaged and the victim in shock and fear.
Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation into the burglary, which happened on Monday, and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with further information to get in touch.
A detective working on the case says she is ‘completely horrified’ by the ‘atrocious’ crime.
Officers believe one member of the group fled the scene in a silver Volkswagen Jetta, while the other two ran off on foot towards Seven Oakes Avenue.
Det Cons Jane Milner, of GMP’s Stockport borough, said: “I am completely horrified at the actions of these men – not only did they break into someone’s house, but they threw an elderly woman to the floor and tied her up in her own home, the place everyone should feel safe.
“Thankfully the victim wasn’t left with any serious injuries but she has been left extremely shaken and now has to live with the trauma of this attack.
“They stole jewellery of huge sentimental value to the woman as well as a quantity of cash. They also caused damage to the property. I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or has any information to please get in touch so we can find the men responsible for this atrocious incident.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 982 of 29/01/18, or the charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
