‘Council is determined to improve the roads’

-

AS previously reported in the M.E.N., we’re currently working hard on our £100m highways investment programme and the first wave of work to fix roads right across the city is well under way.

We’re determined to improve the condition of the city’s highways and through rigorous assessment, the city’s worst roads – including Gladeside Road in Wythenshawe – have been identified and earmarked for urgent resurfacing. I can confirm that stretches of Hollyhedge Road and Peel Hall Road, which were both mentioned in your report, are also included in our resurfacing programme for March.

Other work being carried out around Manchester includes preventative maintenance, large patch repairs to existing road surfaces and the reconstruction of damaged pavements.

In the past year, we’ve treated more than 200 roads, filled more than 15,000 potholes and, weather permitting, our latest preventative programme - covering a further 150 roads - is due to start later this month.

We’re fully aware of the scale of the task and the importance of getting it right for residents, which is why we’re investing in this programme for the long-term benefit of the city and will continue to work methodically through the plan.

The first phase will be completed this spring, with the schedule for 2018/9 and beyond currently being developed by our team.

If you are concerned about the condition of a road near you, then please let us know by reporting it at www.manchester.gov.uk, so that we can ensure the situation is properly assessed. Coun Angeliki Stogia, executive member for the environment and skills, Manchester city council
