The show must go on

CORRIE STAR BREAKS RIBS BUT IS VOWING TO DANCE ON...

-

CORONATION Street star Antony Cotton says the show must go on after he broke two ribs in training for Dancing On Ice. Antony says he hasn’t rested after he broke ribs at the front and back while falling backwards on the ice with pro partner Brandee Malto and is determined to carry on with their “fast and furious” routine this Sunday.

The Bury actor, who plays Sean Tully in the ITV1 soap, says he’s never rung in sick throughout his career and bosses would have to “stretcher him off” before he left Dancing On Ice.

Speaking to This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes he said: “It’s my choice and I want to carry on. It’s front and back. It was a mishap, it was nobody’s fault.

“There were two of us in this tango. We fell backwards and Brandee landed on top of me and crushed me.

“I’ve never, all in my career phone in sick ever once. Never. “I ain’t phoning in sick.” Speaking about the accident in training Antony said: “It happened very quickly. I knew that we were going down so the only thing I thought was I don’t want to bang my head because we’re going to go down with some force.

“So I kind of cradled round Brandee so that my head was up so that meant I just went bang on my back and Brandee landed on top of me so that my ribs crushed to the back and at the front.

“I knew it was bad but the worst part was that I couldn’t breathe.

“At the end of the day it’s horrendous pain. I’ve got painkillers and Brandee’s come all the way from California and we’ve got to a point now in the competition where we’ve worked really hard and I’m not going without a fight so they’ll have to stretcher me off.

“They’ve basically said it’s up to you there’s nothing they can do.

“It’s one of those things that you can’t treat.”

Eamonn cheekily suggested “there’s always the sympathy vote?”

But Antony said: “I don’t really want that.

“I want us to do well so we’ve got straight back on.”

An amazed Eamonn and Ruth pointed out that his injury would take four to six weeks to recover from, and Antony said their routine will be exactly the same as planned, “fast and furious.”

Last week Antony was praised for a gliding performance to Fleetwood Mac’s Songbird and was told “you’re a skater now” by ice skating legend Jayne Torvill.

Her fellow judge and skating partner Christopher Dean praised: “You’re on the brink of becoming an ice dancer.”

And the usually uber-critical Jason Gardiner added: “I love you like never before. That was a big step in the right direction.”
